Show vs Tell Emotion Challenge #18 Doubt

May 28, 2014

Fëarandir is probably my most underdeveloped character, but he has a lot of backstory I hope I’ll get to write about sometime. :3

Doubt

“You represent the interests of both lords? Fëarandir squinted with his jaw slightly left hanging. He paced back and forth in the room eying the slender woman sitting patiently on the chair before him.

“I do my best to keep them happy. They might not agree on many things but I help them find ways to compromise.” A gentle smile formed on Cauri’s lips. “I take my work very seriously, and I can assure you I will remain truly neutral even when dealing with your people.”

Fëarandir stopped and stared at her as if she was some kind of mythical creature. ? “Amazing…”

“My lord?”

“I…” If he squinted any harder his brow would have broken. “A woman?” He tilted his head to the side and rose an eyebrow. “I’m sorry, but the last time they attempted that it did not end too well.” He chuckled amused. “Well… not for your side at least.”

Cauri kept her smile and calm.

“We are not at war anymore. And I plan on keeping it that way. You got what you wanted and have not moved against us since then. So let us make a new attempt at this coexistence thing instead of destroying each other in the future again.”

Fëarandir cringed at her last sentence and returned to his pacing. This time his young pale face contorted in a hard frown.

“You do realise there can never be true peace between our races? My people could probably behave themselves but do you really believe Lorioloth would trust us?”

“I do, and he certainly would not. But it is my belief that our kingdoms could benefit greatly from being more open with each other. If you lords feel the need to express your displeasure, simply shout at me and I’ll deliver the message in more proper wording to the cause of that displeasure.”

Fëarandir nodded hesitantly and tapped his fingers on his thigh.? “Alright, if this allows my people to be less persecuted I’ll do my best to cooperate. But I am no king, and I can not promise that everyone will agree.”

“Then I hope you will understand if we need to retaliate against those individuals who would seek to abuse this truce?” Cauri stood up and held out a sealed scroll to the Morgëthri lord. “Sign this and we will be ready to trade with you and allow passage for those who wish to visit our lands.”

“You may do as you wish with those fools.” He accepted the scroll and signed it without fuss. History would either repeat itself or take a very interesting turn.

Other participants: Anastasia V. Pergakis, S Frankie Blooding, and Veronica R. Calisto.
